The gemological (gemstone) refractometer is a primary and powerful tool for gemstone identification. The refractometer measures the refractive index of faceted stones.

Refractive index is one of the most important optical parameters used to identify and authenticate faceted (polished) gemstones.

The gemological refractometer is an economical measuring instrument used by jewelers and gemstone dealers to measure faceted (polished) gemstones with a refractive index range between 1.30-1.80 RI.
