A jeweler's loupe (loupe) is a gemologist's most important hand tool. It is used to quickly inspect the internal and external characteristics of gemstones. For professional use, a 10x magnification and a color-corrected triplet lens are standard, making it possible to detect inclusions and cut details without optical distortions.

Tip: Hold the loupe close to your eye and instead move the stone towards the loupe until the image is in precise focus. This provides the steadiest hand and best sharpness.

Characteristics of a good gemological loupe
