Can be confused with
Topaz (most common mistake), silicas, Phenakit with several white / colorless stones. Danburit can of course have other colors and consequently possible confusion between items.
Treatments
Irradiation and heat treatment (to whiten matrialet) is conceivable.
Instruments for identification
Microscope / Loupe look for so-called "fingerprints" as well as tube-like inclusions (may even give cat's eye effect).
Specific gravity and refractive index with hydrostatic weighing and refractometer. The two tests will help to separate from Topaz.
Polariscope can separate out the crystal form, but as Topaz is also orthorhombic it is the mineral that Danburit is most easily confused with.
