The rainbow effect seen on tumbled rock crystals called "Angel Aura" (also known as aura crystals) is created by applying a thin layer of metal to the crystal. In the case of Angel Aura, platinum and/or silver are usually used. The process involves the metals being vaporized under high pressure and bonded to the surface of the crystal through a chemical vapor deposition process. This creates the iridescent rainbow pattern that characterizes the stone.
