The rainbow effect seen on tumbled rock crystals called "Angel Aura" (also known as aura crystals) is created by applying a thin layer of metal to the crystal. In the case of Angel Aura, platinum and/or silver are usually used. The process involves the metals being vaporized under high pressure and bonded to the surface of the crystal through a chemical vapor deposition process. This creates the iridescent rainbow pattern that characterizes the stone.
This treatment is believed to enhance the rock crystal's energies and give it an extra dimension of beauty and spiritual qualities.
