Treatments
Heat treatment have been used to improve/change colour. Syntetic Zircon occur but only of sientific value.

Polariscopes to determine crystal form and separate from a number of other possible gemstones.
Microscope / Loupe to examine inclusions.
The refractive index and density are very important data which are determined by refractometer and hydrostatic weighing. Zircon have high density.

Zircon is categorized as high or low Zircon. The last mentioned have its inner crystal structure destroyed/deformed to almost amorf, because of radiation from its Uranium content. This Zircon is green and very sought for by collectors (expensive). Dont mix Zircon with CZ (Cubic Zircnia) wich is a different subject, manmade and have nothing related to Natural Zircon.
